Ch 11Verse 54
Adhyāya 11 Shloka 54

भक्त्या त्वनन्यया शक्य अहमेवंविधोऽर्जुन | ज्ञातुं द्रष्टुं च तत्त्वेन प्रवेष्टुं च परन्तप || ५४ ||

bhaktyā tv ananyayā śakya aham evaṃ-vidho 'rjuna | jñātuṃ draṣṭuṃ ca tattvena praveṣṭuṃ ca paran-tapa || 54 ||

"My dear Arjuna, only by undivided devotional service can I be understood as I am, standing before you, and can thus be seen directly. Only in this way can you enter into the mysteries of My understanding."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Having eliminated all other methods in the previous verse, Krishna now provides the exclusive, ultimate solution. He declares: O Arjuna, chastiser of enemies (paran-tapa), it is only through pure, undivided, unalloyed devotional service and love (bhaktyā tv ananyayā) that it is possible (śakya) to know Me and understand Me exactly as I am (jñātuṃ aham evaṃ-vidho). Only by this method can I be directly, factually seen and perceived in truth (draṣṭuṃ ca tattvena), and ultimately, only by this method can one truly enter into Me and merge into My divine mysteries (praveṣṭuṃ ca).
