Ch 11Verse 52
Adhyāya 11 Shloka 52

श्रीभगवानुवाच | सुदुर्दर्शमिदं रूपं दृष्टवानसि यन्मम | देवा अप्यस्य रूपस्य नित्यं दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः || ५२ ||

śrī-bhagavān uvāca | su-durdarśam idaṃ rūpaṃ dṛṣṭavān asi yan mama | devā apy asya rūpasya nityaṃ darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ || 52 ||

"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, this form of Mine you are now seeing is very difficult to behold. Even the demigods are ever seeking the opportunity to see this form, which is so dear."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

The Supreme Lord now reveals the unparalleled value of the two-armed form Arjuna is currently looking at. He says: This specific, original human-like form of Mine (idaṃ rūpaṃ mama) which you are seeing right now (yan dṛṣṭavān asi) is exceedingly rare and supremely difficult to behold (su-durdarśam). Indeed, even the highest celestial demigods (devā apy) are constantly, eternally yearning, desiring, and hoping (nityaṃ darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ) for just an opportunity to see this specific form (asya rūpasya).
