Krishna categorically eliminates all mechanical methods of attaining this vision. He addresses Arjuna as the best of the Kuru heroes (kuru-pravīra) and declares: Not by the intense study of the Vedas or sacrifices (na veda-yajñādhyayanair), not by massive giving of charity (na dānair), not by strict adherence to pious rituals and activities (na ca kriyābhir), and certainly not by executing severe, extreme physical penances (na tapobhir ugraiḥ)—by none of these methods is it possible (śakya) for Me to be seen in this specific Universal Form (evaṃ-rūpaḥ ahaṃ draṣṭuṃ) in this human world (nṛ-loke) by anyone other than you (tvad-anyena).
