"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, happily have I shown you, by My internal mystic power, this supreme universal form within the material world. No one before you has ever seen this primal form, unlimited and full of glaring effulgence."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

The Supreme Lord gently responds to calm His terrified friend, acknowledging the rarity of the event. He says: O Arjuna, being deeply pleased and happy with you (mayā prasannena tava), I have revealed and shown to you (darśitam) this supreme, absolute form (rūpaṃ paraṃ) strictly through My own internal mystic potency (ātma-yogāt). This cosmic form is completely composed of blazing light (tejo-mayaṃ), it encompasses the entire universe (viśvam), it is utterly boundless and infinite (anantam), and it is the primeval, original manifestation (ādyaṃ). This specific form of Mine has absolutely never been seen before (na dṛṣṭa-pūrvam) by anyone other than you (yan me tvad-anyena).
