Ch 11Verse 46
Adhyāya 11 Shloka 46

किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रहस्तमिच्छामि त्वां द्रष्टुमहं तथैव | तेनैव रूपेण चतुर्भुजेन सहस्रबाहो भव विश्वमूर्ते || ४६ ||

kirīṭinaṃ gadinaṃ cakra-hastam icchāmi tvāṃ draṣṭum ahaṃ tathaiva | tenaiva rūpeṇa catur-bhujena sahasra-bāho bhava viśva-mūrte || 46 ||

"O universal form, O thousand-armed Lord, I wish to see You in Your four-armed form, with helmeted head and with club, wheel, conch and lotus flower in Your hands. I long to see You in that form."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna makes his request highly specific. He says: I deeply desire to see You exactly as before (icchāmi tvāṃ draṣṭum ahaṃ tathaiva)—adorned with a crown (kirīṭinaṃ), holding a mace (gadinaṃ), and with a spinning disc in Your hand (cakra-hastam). O Lord of a thousand arms (sahasra-bāho), O personification of the universal form (viśva-mūrte), please transform and become manifest (bhava) specifically in that same beautiful four-armed form (tenaiva rūpeṇa catur-bhujena)!
