"Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna and the other great warriors have already been destroyed by Me. Therefore, kill them and do not be disturbed. Simply fight, and you will vanquish your enemies in battle."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

To completely remove any lingering hesitation, Krishna specifically names the individuals Arjuna fears fighting the most. He commands: The great teacher Drona (droṇaṃ ca), the revered grandsire Bhishma (bhīṣmaṃ ca), the powerful king Jayadratha (jayadrathaṃ ca), the invincible Karna (karṇaṃ), and similarly all the other exceptionally heroic warriors present here (tathānyān api yodha-vīrān)—they are already slain and destroyed by Me (mayā hatāṃs). Therefore, you must simply slay them externally (tvaṃ jahi). Do not be distressed, pained, or agitated about this (mā vyathiṣṭhā). Just fight (yudhyasva), and you will undoubtedly conquer and vanquish all your rivals and enemies in this battle (jetāsi raṇe sapatnān).
