"Therefore, get up. Prepare to fight and win glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a flourishing kingdom. They are already put to death by My arrangement, and you, O Savyasacin, can be but an instrument in the fight."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Having explained that the timeline is already set, Krishna gives Arjuna the ultimate, practical command. He says: Therefore (tasmāt), you must stand up and arise (tvam uttiṣṭha)! Attain victory and win great fame and glory (yaśo labhasva). Having definitively conquered your enemies (jitvā śatrūn), you must enjoy the rule of a prosperous, flourishing kingdom (bhuṅkṣva rājyaṃ samṛddham). The reality is that all of these warriors have already been killed and put to death by Me alone (mayaivaite nihatāḥ pūrvam eva) well before the battle even starts. Therefore, O Savyasacin (ambidextrous archer), you must merely become the physical instrument or the apparent cause (nimitta-mātraṃ bhava) of their defeat.
