"Your form is difficult to see because of its glaring effulgence, spreading on all sides, like blazing fire or the immeasurable radiance of the sun. Yet I see this glowing form everywhere, adorned with various crowns, clubs and discs."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna struggles against the overwhelming sensory overload of the vision. He describes what he manages to see: I behold You (paśyāmi tvāṃ) adorned with majestic crowns (kirīṭinaṃ), wielding massive clubs (gadinaṃ), and spinning discs/chakras (cakriṇaṃ ca). Yet, You are exceptionally difficult to look at or gaze upon directly (durnirīkṣyaṃ) because You are a concentrated, massive mountain of blazing light (tejo-rāśiṃ). You are intensely illuminating everywhere and spreading radiance in all directions (sarvato dīptimantam). The brilliant, glowing effulgence surrounding You on all sides (samantād dyutim) is exactly like the fierce blazing of a cosmic fire or the immeasurable, blinding radiance of the sun (dīptānalārka aprameyam).
