Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Sanjaya begins describing the unimaginable visual details of the Universal Form (Visvarupa). He states that the form possessed unlimited, countless mouths and faces (aneka-vaktra), and countless, infinite eyes (nayanam). It presented an unlimited array of wonderful, awe-inspiring, and astonishing visions (anekādbhuta-darśanam). Furthermore, this staggering form was decorated and adorned with countless celestial, glowing ornaments (aneka-divyābharaṇaṃ), and it wielded and held aloft innumerable divine, ready-to-strike weapons (divyānekodyatāyudham).
