Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna continues to identify Himself as the highest pinnacle in various categories. He declares: Among all weapons (āyudhānām), I am the thunderbolt (vajraṃ), the invincible weapon of Indra. Among cows (dhenūnām), I am the divine, wish-fulfilling Surabhi cow (kāmadhuk). Among the causes of procreation and generation (prajanaḥ), I am Kandarpa (Cupid), the god of love. And among the single-hooded serpents (sarpāṇām), I am the king of serpents, Vasuki.
