Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna provides more specific landmarks of His opulence. Among all trees (sarva-vṛkṣāṇāṃ), He is the vast, sacred Ashvattha or banyan tree (aśvatthaḥ). Among the celestial sages of the demigods (devarṣīṇāṃ), He is the wandering saint Narada (nāradaḥ). Among the Gandharvas, the celestial singers and musicians (gandharvāṇāṃ), He is their chief, Citraratha. And among the Siddhās, the naturally perfected or fully realized beings (siddhānāṃ), He is the great sage Kapila (kapilo muniḥ).
