Ch 10Verse 15
Adhyāya 10 Shloka 15

स्वयमेवात्मनात्मानं वेत्थ त्वं पुरुषोत्तम | भूतभावन भूतेश देवदेव जगत्पते || १५ ||

svayam evātmanātmānaṃ vettha tvaṃ puruṣottama | bhūta-bhāvana bhūteśa deva-deva jagat-pate || 15 ||

"Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own internal potency, O Supreme Person, origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, Lord of the universe!"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna acknowledges the absolute impossibility of fully grasping the Supreme with a finite mind. He addresses Krishna with five majestic titles: O Supreme Person (puruṣottama), Origin and Creator of all beings (bhūta-bhāvana), Sovereign Lord of all entities (bhūteśa), God of all the demigods (deva-deva), and Master of the entire universe (jagat-pate). He then states the core truth: You alone (tvaṃ svayam eva) truly know and understand Yourself (ātmānaṃ vettha) through Your own internal self and potency (ātmanā).
