Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Upon hearing the profound revelations of the Catur-ślokī, Arjuna experiences a massive paradigm shift and speaks (arjuna uvāca). He erupts in a spontaneous declaration of Krishna's absolute supremacy, stating: You are (bhavān) the Supreme Absolute Truth (paraṃ brahma), the ultimate resting place and supreme refuge (paraṃ dhāma), and the purest, most supreme purifier (pavitraṃ paramam). You are the eternal, everlasting person (puruṣaṃ śāśvataṃ), fully transcendental and divine (divyam). You are the original, primeval Lord (ādi-devam), the unborn one (ajaṃ), and the all-pervading, greatest sovereign (vibhum).
