Ch 1Verse 43
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 43

दोषैरेतै: कुलघ्नानां वर्णसङ्करकारकै: | उत्साद्यन्ते जातिधर्मा: कुलधर्माश्च शाश्वता: || ४३ ||

doṣair etaiḥ kula-ghnānāṃ varṇa-saṅkara-kārakaiḥ | utsādyante jāti-dharmāḥ kula-dharmāś ca śāśvatāḥ || 43 ||

"By the evil deeds of those who destroy the family, causing a confusion of castes, the eternal traditions of the community and the family are devastated."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna summarizes his sociological argument. He reiterates that the 'evil deeds' (doṣair) of war will destroy not just the immediate family, but the broader community traditions (jāti-dharmāḥ) and eternal family customs (kula-dharmāś ca śāśvatāḥ). He firmly places the blame on 'kula-ghnānāṃ'—the destroyers of the family.
