Ch 1Verse 4
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 4

अत्र शूरा महेष्वासा भीमार्जुनसमा युधि | युयुधानो विराटश्च द्रुपदश्च महारथः || ४ ||

atra śūrā maheṣvāsā bhīmārjunasamā yudhi | yuyudhāno virāṭaśca drupadaśca mahārathaḥ || 4 ||

"In this army are brave warriors, great archers, equal to Bhima and Arjuna in battle: Yuyudhana, Virata, and the great chariot-warrior Drupada."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Duryodhana is listing the heavyweights of the Pandava side. Yuyudhana (also known as Satyaki) was a powerful Yadava warrior and Krishna’s disciple. Virata was the king who sheltered the Pandavas during their exile. Drupada was the king of Panchala. By naming them, Duryodhana is reminding Drona of the caliber of the men he must kill, attempting to provoke a 'kill or be killed' instinct in his teacher.
