Arjuna reaches the absolute climax of his emotional and moral breakdown. He makes a sweeping, absolute declaration: he will not kill them. He goes further, stating he would rather let them kill him ('ghnato 'pi'). To prove the 'nobility' of his stance, he claims he wouldn't fight them even if he were offered the rulership of the Three Worlds (Heaven, Earth, and the Netherworld), making the current fight for a mere patch of earth ('mahī-kṛte') seem completely absurd. He addresses Krishna as Madhusudana (Slayer of the demon Madhu).
