Ch 1Verse 29
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 29

सीदन्ति मम गात्राणि मुखं च परिशुष्यति | वेपथुश्च शरीरे मे रोमहर्षश्च जायते || २९ ||

sīdanti mama gātrāṇi mukhaṃ ca pariśuṣyati | vepathuś ca śarīre me roma-harṣaś ca jāyate || 29 ||

"...my limbs weaken and fail, my mouth becomes dry, my body trembles, and my hair stands on end."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna is describing a complete physical breakdown. As he continues his sentence to Krishna, he details the somatic (bodily) symptoms of his grief. His muscles lose their strength, his saliva production stops (dry mouth), he is shaking uncontrollably, and he experiences piloerection (goosebumps/hair standing on end). The greatest warrior in the world is experiencing a textbook panic attack.
