Ch 1Verse 17
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 17

काश्यश्च परमेष्वासः शिखण्डी च महारथः | धृष्टद्युम्नो विराटश्च सात्यकिश्चापराजितः || १७ ||

kāśyaś ca parameṣvāsaḥ śikhaṇḍī ca mahārathaḥ | dhṛṣṭadyumno virāṭaś ca sātyakiś cāparājitaḥ || 17 ||

"The King of Kashi, an excellent archer; Shikhandi, the great chariot-warrior; Dhrishtadyumna and Virata; and the unconquerable Satyaki (all blew their conch shells)."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Historically, these men were powerhouses. Dhrishtadyumna was the commander-in-chief of the Pandava army; Shikhandi was the pivotal figure destined to bring down Bhishma; Satyaki was Krishna's own kinsman and a warrior of immense skill. By listing them, Sanjaya is informing the blind King Dhritarashtra that the Pandavas are not alone; they are supported by a 'dream team' of moral and military giants.
