Ch 1Verse 16
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 16

अनन्तविजयं राजा कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः | नकुलः सहदेवश्च सुघोषमणिपुष्पकौ || १६ ||

anantavijayaṃ rājā kuntī-putro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | nakulaḥ sahadevaś ca sughoṣa-maṇipuṣpakau || 16 ||

"King Yudhisthira, the son of Kunti, blew his conch named Anantavijaya; Nakula and Sahadeva blew the Sughosa and Manipuspaka conches, respectively."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Historically, Yudhisthira is the rightful king. By blowing his conch, he is officially reclaiming his sovereignty. The twins, Nakula and Sahadeva, despite being the youngest, are fully integrated into the battle plan. This shows that the Pandava side is not just a collection of individuals (like the Kaurava allies), but a unified family bound by a single purpose.
