Ch 1Verse 14
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 14

ततः श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्यन्दने स्थितौ | माधवः पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शङ्खौ प्रदध्मतुः || १४ ||

tataḥ śvetair hayair yukte mahati syandane sthitau | mādhavaḥ pāṇḍavaś caiva divyau śaṅkhau pradadhmatuḥ || 14 ||

"Then, seated in a magnificent chariot yoked with white horses, Mādhava (Krishna) and Pāṇḍava (Arjuna) blew their divine conch shells."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Historically, this is the Pandavas' reply to the Kauravas' challenge. While the Kauravas had a larger army, the Pandavas possessed the superior 'hardware'—a chariot gifted by Agni (the Fire God) to Arjuna. Krishna, acting as the charioteer (Sārathi), and Arjuna, the warrior, blow their conches to announce their readiness. The contrast is stark: the Kauravas’ noise was chaotic; the Pandavas’ response is coordinated and majestic.
