Ch 1Verse 10
Adhyāya 1 Shloka 10

अपर्याप्तं तदस्माकं बलं भीष्माभिरक्षितम् | पर्याप्तं त्विदमेतेषां बलं भीमाभिरक्षितम् || १० ||

aparyāptaṃ tad asmākaṃ balaṃ bhīṣmābhirakṣitam | paryāptaṃ tv idam eteṣāṃ balaṃ bhīmābhirakṣitam || 10 ||

"Our strength is immeasurable, and we are perfectly protected by Grandfather Bhishma, whereas their strength, protected by Bhima, is limited."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Duryodhana is concluding his 'pep talk' to Dronacharya. Having seen the Pandava army, he feels the need to reassert his dominance. He highlights Bhishma as his protector to remind Drona that their side has the most experienced warrior in history. By calling the Pandava army 'sufficient' (paryāptaṃ) or 'limited,' he is attempting to mentally diminish the threat.
