Adhyāya 9 Shloka 7

सर्वभूतानि कौन्तेय प्रकृतिं यान्ति मामिकाम् | कल्पक्षये पुनस्तानि कल्पादौ विसृजाम्यहम् || ७ ||

sarva-bhūtāni kaunteya prakṛtiṃ yānti māmikām | kalpa-kṣaye punas tāni kalpādau visṛjāmy aham || 7 ||

"O son of Kunti, at the end of the millennium all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna outlines the cyclical nature of cosmic time. He addresses Arjuna (kaunteya) and states that all created entities and elements (sarva-bhūtāni) ultimately merge back into His own material energy (prakṛtiṃ yānti māmikām) at the dissolution of a cosmic cycle or eon (kalpa-kṣaye). Then, at the dawn of the next cosmic cycle (kalpādau), He once again sends them forth or projects them into manifestation (punas tāni visṛjāmy aham).
