Ch 9Verse 24
Adhyāya 9 Shloka 24

अहं हि सर्वयज्ञानां भोक्ता च प्रभुरेव च | न तु मामभिजानन्ति तत्त्वेनातश्च्यवन्ति ते || २४ ||

ahaṃ hi sarva-yajñānāṃ bhoktā ca prabhur eva ca | na tu mām abhijānanti tattvenātaś cyavanti te || 24 ||

"I am the only enjoyer and master of all sacrifices. Therefore, those who do not recognize My true transcendental nature fall down."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Explaining exactly why indirect worship fails, Krishna provides the foundational reason. He states: I alone (ahaṃ hi) am the ultimate enjoyer (bhoktā) and the supreme master or lord (prabhur eva ca) of all sacrifices and rituals (sarva-yajñānāṃ). However, because these indirect worshippers do not truly comprehend or recognize Me (na tu mām abhijānanti) in truth and reality (tattvena), they therefore (ataś) fall down (cyavanti te) back into material existence.
