श्रीभगवानुवाच | इदं तु ते गुह्यतमं प्रवक्ष्याम्यनसूयवे | ज्ञानं विज्ञानसहितं यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात् || १ ||

śrī-bhagavān uvāca | idaṃ tu te guhyatamaṃ pravakṣyāmy anasūyave | jñānaṃ vijñāna-sahitaṃ yaj jñātvā mokṣyase 'śubhāt || 1 ||

"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: My dear Arjuna, because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most confidential knowledge and realization, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna opens the chapter by establishing the precise condition under which the ultimate truth is revealed. He declares: Now (tu), I shall explicitly speak and reveal (pravakṣyāmi) to you this most profoundly secret and confidential truth (idaṃ guhyatamaṃ). Why? Specifically because you are completely free from envy, jealousy, and a fault-finding nature (anasūyave). I will give you this theoretical knowledge (jñānaṃ) perfectly combined with its direct, experiential realization (vijñāna-sahitaṃ). Having truly known and grasped this (yaj jñātvā), you will be completely liberated and set free from all that is inauspicious, miserable, and evil (mokṣyase 'śubhāt).
