Krishna reaches the absolute apex of psychological equanimity. In Verse 8, the Yogi neutralized objects (gold and dirt). Here, the Yogi neutralizes humanity. Krishna declares a person is considered supremely advanced and distinguished (viśiṣyate) when they possess an entirely equal, unbiased intellect (sama-buddhiḥ) toward an exhaustive list of human relationships: toward well-wishers (suhṛn), friends (mitra), enemies (ari), the indifferent (udāsīna), neutral mediators (madhyastha), the envious/hateful (dveṣya), relatives (bandhuṣu), and even toward the highly pious saints (sādhuṣu api ca) and the worst sinners (pāpeṣu).
