Ch 6Verse 17
Adhyāya 6 Shloka 17

युक्ताहारविहारस्य युक्तचेष्टस्य कर्मसु | युक्तस्वप्नावबोधस्य योगो भवति दु:खहा || १७ ||

yuktāhāra-vihārasya yukta-ceṣṭasya karmasu | yukta-svapnāvabodhasya yogo bhavati duḥkha-hā || 17 ||

"He who is regulated in his habits of eating, sleeping, recreation and work can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna expands Verse 16 into a positive, actionable formula. He states that for the person who is properly regulated and measured (yukta) in their eating and recreation (āhāra-vihārasya), who is regulated in their effort and daily work (yukta-ceṣṭasya karmasu), and who is perfectly regulated in their sleep and wakefulness (yukta-svapnāvabodhasya)—for that specific person, the practice of Yoga becomes the ultimate destroyer of all sorrow and pain (yogo bhavati duḥkha-hā).
