tasmād ajñāna-sambhūtaṃ hṛt-sthaṃ jñānāsinātmanaḥ | chittvainaṃ saṃśayaṃ yogam ātiṣṭhottiṣṭha bhārata || 42 ||

"Therefore the doubts which have arisen in your heart out of ignorance should be slashed by the weapon of knowledge. Armed with yoga, O Bharata, stand and fight."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna delivers the final, thundering battle cry of Chapter 4. He points directly to the root of Arjuna's paralysis: Therefore (tasmād), this doubt of yours which is born purely out of ignorance (ajñāna-sambhūtaṃ) and has lodged itself deep in your heart (hṛt-sthaṃ)... you must slash it to pieces (chittvainaṃ saṃśayaṃ) with the razor-sharp sword of Knowledge (jñānāsinā) of the Self (ātmanaḥ). Having destroyed the doubt, take refuge in Yoga (yogam ātiṣṭha) and STAND UP (uttiṣṭha), O descendant of Bharata!
