Ch 3Verse 21
Adhyāya 3 Shloka 21

यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जन: | स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते || २१ ||

yad yad ācarati śreṣṭhas tat tad evetaro janaḥ | sa yat pramāṇaṃ kurute lokas tad anuvartate || 21 ||

"Whatever action a great man performs, common men follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

This is a universal sociological law. Krishna states that whatever (yad yad) an eminent or great person (śreṣṭhas) does (ācarati), ordinary people (itaro janaḥ) will do exactly the same (tat tad eva). Whatever standard or authority (pramāṇaṃ) the great person sets by their actions, the entire world (lokas) will simply follow and imitate (anuvartate).
