Ch 3Verse 16
Adhyāya 3 Shloka 16

एवं प्रवर्तितं चक्रं नानुवर्तयतीह य: | अघायुरिन्द्रियारामो मोघं पार्थ स जीवति || १६ ||

evaṃ pravartitaṃ cakraṃ nānuvartayatīha yaḥ | aghāyur indriyārāmo moghaṃ pārtha sa jīvati || 16 ||

"O Partha, one who does not follow the wheel of creation thus established by the Vedas lives a life full of sin. Living only for the satisfaction of the senses, such a person lives in vain."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna concludes his discourse on the Cosmic Wheel (introduced in Verses 14-15) with a severe warning. He states that a person who does not follow or maintain (nānuvartayati) this revolving wheel (cakraṃ) lives a life of sin (aghāyuḥ). Because this person's only delight is in the gratification of their senses (indriyārāmo), Krishna delivers the ultimate verdict: they live their life completely in vain (moghaṃ sa jīvati).
