Ch 2Verse 1
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 1

भीष्मद्रोणप्रमुखतः सर्वेषां च महीक्षिताम् | उवाच पार्थ पश्यैतान्समवेतान्कुरुनिति || २५ ||

bhīṣma-droṇa-pramukhataḥ sarveṣāṃ ca mahī-kṣitām | uvāca pārtha paśyaitān samavetān kurūn iti || 25 ||

"In the presence of Bhishma, Drona, and all the other kings, the Lord said: 'O Partha (Arjuna), behold these Kurus gathered here.'"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

This is the turning point of the chapter. Krishna does not just place the chariot randomly in the center. He deliberately parks it directly in front of Bhishma (Arjuna's beloved grandfather) and Drona (his revered teacher). Then, Krishna speaks his only words in this chapter: 'Behold the Kurus.' He does not say 'Behold the enemy.' He uses their family name.
