Ch 16Verse 5
Adhyāya 16 Shloka 5

दैवी सम्पद्विमोक्षाय निबन्धायासुरी मता | मा शुचः सम्पदं दैवीमभिजातोऽसि पाण्डव || ५ ||

daivī sampad vimokṣāya nibandhāyāsurī matā | mā śucaḥ sampadaṁ daivīm abhijāto 'si pāṇḍava || 5 ||

"The transcendental qualities are conducive to liberation, whereas the demoniac qualities make for bondage. Do not worry, O son of Pāṇḍu, for you are born with the divine qualities."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna clearly outlines the ultimate destinations of these two natures. The divine assets (daivī sampad) lead directly to ultimate liberation (vimokṣāya). Conversely, the demoniac qualities strictly guarantee further material bondage and suffering (nibandhāyāsurī matā). Sensing Arjuna's sudden anxiety—since Arjuna is standing on a battlefield preparing to kill, which might seem 'harsh'—Krishna reassures him: 'Do not worry (mā śucaḥ), you are born with the divine qualities (abhijāto 'si).'
