Ch 14Verse 4
Adhyāya 14 Shloka 4

सर्वयोनिषु कौन्तेय मूर्तयः सम्भवन्ति याः | तासां ब्रह्म महद्योनिरहं बीजप्रदः पिता || ४ ||

sarva-yoniṣu kaunteya mūrtayaḥ sambhavanti yāḥ | tāsāṁ brahma mahad yonir ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā || 4 ||

"It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kuntī, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna expands the previous verse to encompass absolutely everything. In all species of life (sarva-yoniṣu)—whether humans, demigods, animals, plants, or aquatics—whatever forms (mūrtayaḥ) manifest, the vast material nature (Brahman/Mahat Tattva) is their mother (yonir), and Krishna declares, 'I am the seed-giving father' (ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā).
