Aligning Consciousness

Ch 13Verse 33
Adhyāya 13 Shloka 33

यथा प्रकाशयत्येकः कृत्स्नं लोकमिमं रविः | क्षेत्रं क्षेत्री तथा कृत्स्नं प्रकाशयति भारत || ३३ ||

yathā prakāśayaty ekaḥ kṛtsnaṁ lokam imaṁ raviḥ | kṣetraṁ kṣetrī tathā kṛtsnaṁ prakāśayati bhārata || 33 ||

"O son of Bharata, as the sun alone illuminates all this universe, so does the living entity, one within the body, illuminate the entire body by consciousness."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna uses another powerful natural metaphor: the sun. Just as one single sun (ekaḥ raviḥ) is sufficient to distribute light and heat to illuminate the entire universe/solar system (kṛtsnaṁ lokam), similarly, the one soul (kṣetrī) sitting in the heart completely illuminates the entire physical body (kṣetraṁ) with consciousness.
