Ch 13Verse 27
Adhyāya 13 Shloka 27

यावत्सञ्जायते किञ्चित्सत्त्वं स्थावरजङ्गमम् | क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञसंयोगात्तद्विद्धि भरतर्षभ || २७ ||

yāvat sañjāyate kiñcit sattvaṁ sthāvara-jaṅgamam | kṣetra-kṣetrajña-saṁyogāt tad viddhi bharatarṣabha || 27 ||

"O chief of the Bhāratas, whatever you see in existence, both the moving and the nonmoving, is only a combination of the field of activities and the knower of the field."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna boils the entire cosmos down to a single equation. Absolutely everything that exists (yāvat sañjāyate kiñcit)—whether it is moving (jaṅgamam) like animals and humans, or nonmoving (sthāvara) like trees and mountains—is simply a temporary combination (saṁyogāt) of two things: the field of matter (kṣetra) and the conscious spirit soul (kṣetrajña).
