Ch 12Verse 9
Adhyāya 12 Shloka 9

"My dear Arjuna, O winner of wealth, if you cannot fix your mind upon Me without deviation, then follow the regulative principles of bhakti-yoga. In this way develop a desire to attain Me."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Knowing human weakness perfectly, Krishna immediately offers a stepped-down alternative. He says: However (atha), if you are simply unable (na śaknoṣi) to fix and establish your mind steadily and firmly upon Me without deviation (cittaṃ samādhātuṃ mayi sthiram), then do not despair. Instead, through the repeated practice of regulative principles and discipline (abhyāsa-yogena), you must gradually develop the desire to attain and reach Me (tato mām icchāptuṃ), O Dhananjaya (winner of wealth).
