Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna begins the eleventh chapter by expressing his profound gratitude and the internal result of Krishna's teachings. He says: purely as a favor to me and out of Your grace (mad-anugrahāya), You have spoken words (yat tvayoktaṃ vacas) explaining the supreme, most confidential secrets regarding the nature of the self and the Supreme (paramaṃ guhyam adhyātma-sañjñitam). Because of this transcendental instruction (tena), this deep illusion and bewilderment of mine (moho 'yaṃ mama) has completely departed and been dispelled (vigato).
