Ch 4Verse 27
Adhyāya 4 Shloka 27

सर्वाणीन्द्रियकर्माणि प्राणकर्माणि चापरे | आत्मसंयमयोगाग्नौ जुह्वति ज्ञानदीपिते || २७ ||

sarvāṇīndriya-karmāṇi prāṇa-karmāṇi cāpare | ātma-saṃyama-yogāgnau juhvati jñāna-dīpite || 27 ||

"Others, who are interested in achieving self-realization through control of the mind and senses, offer the functions of all the senses, and of the life breath, as oblations into the fire of the controlled mind."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna moves to a deeper, more integrated level of sacrifice. He describes practitioners (cāpare) who take all the activities of their senses (sarvāṇīndriya-karmāṇi) as well as all the activities of their vital life force or breath (prāṇa-karmāṇi) and sacrifice them (juhvati) into a single, blazing location: the fire of the yoga of self-restraint (ātma-saṃyama-yogāgnau). Crucially, this fire must be illuminated and kindled by pure knowledge (jñāna-dīpite).
