Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna introduces the ultimate spiritual fail-safe. He explains that the three words 'Om Tat Sat' have been the supreme designation (nirdeśo) indicating the Absolute Truth (brahmaṇas) since the dawn of creation (purā). These sacred syllables were used by the Brahmanas (spiritual classes) to inaugurate and sanctify all Vedic hymns and sacrifices.
